Utility To Change Information Needed For Choice Customer Enrollments

Philadelphia Gas Works has filed a tariff with the Pennsylvania PUC to, among other things, modify the information needed from retail suppliers to enroll customers
The changes are prompted by an update to PGW's CIS
Under the revised tariff, suppliers would use for enrollment the customer's service agreement number (a new number being implemented under the CIS change) and the customer's postal code
Currently, suppliers must use two distinct customer-specific numbers for enrollment -- the account number, and the service point number
PGW said that using only one unique ID that the customer would likely need to reference (as the customer will likely know their zip code without looking it up), rather than using two unique ID numbers, should make shopping easier
PGW also said that requiring two unique IDs for enrollment is not common at other utilities, and thus the change should make the process easier for new suppliers entering PGW's choice program, and should streamline the exchange of information between PGW and retail suppliers
The new service agreement number to be used for enrollment will appear in the shopping information box on customer bills
PGW will send suppliers the new service agreement numbers for their current customers via EDI while also separately providing a cutover list to suppliers
PGW will, for 90 days, allow suppliers to use the old account number and service point
number for customer validation under inbound transactions
PGW's revised tariff also includes various other changes to reflect or clarify current practice
Among other things, tariff language has been modified to clarify that there is no switching fee at PGW for any customer transfer between suppliers and/or default service. The current tariff states that there is no switching fee for an "initial" enrollment, but the current tariff is otherwise silent on the matter, which could be read as allowing for a switching fee for enrollments other than the initial enrollment
The tariff revisions remain subject to PUC approval
