Home Solar SREC Marketer, Electrification Advisor Acquires Retail Energy Shopping Service

Currents Energy, Inc., a start-up which provides solar REC marketing and other services as a home electrification advisor, has launched a retail energy shopping service after recently acquiring concierge energy shopping service PowerPicker
Currents Energy, Inc. launched operations as a retail energy concierge under the broker license of another broker, but is now seeking its own broker licenses
Currents Energy, Inc. is applying for electric broker licenses in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, and the District of Columbia
Currents states that it will offer an automatic switching (concierge) service as a retail energy broker, charging a 20% Shared Savings fee (convenience fee) for monitoring rates, switching energy suppliers,
protecting retail customers from "spam", and providing insights on energy spend.
Specifically, Currents charges homeowners a, "transparent 20% share of the verified utility-bill savings it delivers each month."
Currents states that it does not currently accept commissions or incentive payments from suppliers.
In Pennsylvania, Currents Energy is seeking an electric broker/marketer license to serve residential and all sizes of commercial customers in all service areas.
Among other marketing channels, Currents Energy will institute referral partnerships from solar installers who already send SREC clients to Currents.
"Our long-term vision is to become the trusted energy operating system for the connected home, turning fragmented utility data into actionable, automated decisions that lower bills and accelerate household electrification," Currents states
Currents currently aggregates SRECs for solar owners in the PJM territory.
Matt Zothner is a Founder & CEO of Currents Energy. Zothner is said to have a background in energy-fintech and grid services, having, "previously led growth at Prufrock Ventures helping Abode launch a utility bill product in the Texas deregulated energy market[.]"
Zothner previously served as Head Of Marketing at Alcove, a platform for residential renters and rentals, and worked on consumer IoT devices at Intel
Scot Lawrie is Co-Founder & CTO of Currents Energy. Lawrie is described as a, "serial entrepreneur who reverse-engineered the SunPower monitoring API to restore free data access for homeowners; specializes in scaling DER integrations and providing easy-to-use energy tools for consumers."
