Choice Utility Withdraws Application To Finish AMI Deployment To All Customers

Dayton Power and Light d/b/a AES Ohio has withdrawn a petition before the PUC of Ohio which had originally sought approval of Phase 2 of the utility's Smart Grid Plan ("SGP")
As originally filed, AES Ohio intended under the now-withdrawn application to deploy approximately 58,655 smart meters to support remaining customers who will not receive AMI under Phase 1, and to meet the expected customer load growth during SGP Phase 2.
AES Ohio cited the enactment of HB 15, and the end of authorization for new electric security plans under the new law, for the SGP 2 withdrawal
AES Ohio stated, "Given the recent enactment of Sub.
H.B. 15, which prohibits AES Ohio from applying for a new electric security plan, as well as the
near-term financial uncertainty created by the statute, AES Ohio requires flexibility as to the
timing and scope of Smart Grid investments to continue to deliver their benefits to customers."
Under Phase 1 of SGP, which is unaffected by the withdrawal, AES Ohio is installing AMI meters for 95% of its customers by the end of SGP Phase 1. AES Ohio plans to install approximately 495,000 AMI meters for customers throughout its service territory by the end of SGP Phase 1.
