Residential, Small Commercial Default Service Rate Increasing 23% At Versant-Bangor Hydro

The small customer class Standard Offer rate at Versant Power’s Bangor Hydro District (BHD) will increase 23% starting January 1, 2026, as the Maine PUC approved Standard Offer bids for the 2026 term
For the small customer class (residential and small non-residential) at Versant Power - Bangor Hydro District, the Standard Offer for January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026 will be about 12.95 cents per kWh, which is about 23% higher than the current rate of 10.5628 cents per kWh (a PUC order with the 2026 rate expressed to four decimals was not yet available, nor has the PUC's standard offer website been updated as of press time)
For the medium non-residential class at BHD, monthly SOS rates have been established by the PUC but have not yet been posted by the PUC. The PUC said that the medium non-residential class weighted average SOS rate for 2026 is a weighted average of 12.80 cents per kWh, versus a weighted average of 10.39 cents per kWh in 2025, but the actual SOS rates which will be charged to non-shopping medium non-residential customers each month will vary by month
The Standard Offer rates for the large non-residential class at Versant-BHD will be indexed to wholesale market prices and will be set in advance of each month.
