More Maine Residential, Small C&I Default Service Rates Increasing 20-30%

The Maine PUC has established Standard Offer electricity rates for customers at Central Maine Power (CMP), and at Versant Power's Maine Public District (MPD).
At CMP, for the Residential/Small Business class, the Standard Offer rate for January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026 will be about 12.72 cents per kWh, about 20% higher than the current rate of 10.61 cents per kWh (a PUC order with the 2026 rate expressed to four decimals was not yet available, nor has the PUC's standard offer website been updated as of press time)
For the medium non-residential class at CMP, monthly SOS rates have been established by the PUC, but have not yet been posted by the PUC. The PUC said that the medium non-residential class weighted average SOS rate for 2026 at CMP is a weighted average of 12.36 cents per kWh, versus a weighted average of 10.47 cents per kWh in 2025, but the actual SOS rates which will be charged to non-shopping medium non-residential customers each month will vary by month
The Standard Offer prices for the large non-residential class at CMP will be indexed to wholesale market prices and will be set in advance of each month.
At Versant-MPD, the Residential/Small Business Standard Offer rate will be about 14.87 cents per kWh for the period January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, about 28% higher than the current rate of 11.65 cents per kWh
For the medium non-residential class at Versant-MPD, monthly SOS rates have been established by the PUC, but have not yet been posted by the PUC. The PUC said that the medium non-residential class weighted average SOS rate for 2026 at MPD is a weighted average of 14.67 cents per kWh, versus a weighted average of 15.02 cents per kWh in 2025, but the actual SOS rates which will be charged to non-shopping medium non-residential customers each month will vary by month
For the large non-residential class at Versant-MPD, monthly SOS rates have been established by the PUC but have not yet been posted by the PUC. The PUC said that the large non-residential class weighted average SOS rate for 2026 at MPD is a weighted average of 17.16 cents per kWh, versus a weighted average of 17.76 cents per kWh in 2025, but the actual SOS rates which will be charged to non-shopping large non-residential customers each month will vary by month
