The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

The PUC of Ohio approved without modification the separate settlements listed below:

• A settlement among Major Energy Services LLC, PUCO Staff, and the OCC under which Major will contribute $400,000 to a utility bill payment assistance fund while providing refunds to certain customers. Under the adopted stipulation, Major Energy will also drop customers enrolled by two vendors to default service and will undertake other remedial measures, as further detailed in our prior story here

• A settlement among Eligo Energy OH, LLC, PUCO Staff, and the OCC under which Eligo will make a $300,000 donation to an energy bill payment assistance fund and will also pay a civil forfeiture of $14,600. The Eligo settlement includes customer re-rates and other remedial measures as further detailed in our prior story here

PUCO Chair Jenifer French stated, "Misleading and deceptive behavior by retail energy providers will not be tolerated in Ohio. Consumers who believe they have been misled should contact the PUCO for assistance."

Addressing both settlements, Commissioner Lawrence Friedeman said, "should there be a recurrence of problematic behavior, I believe that any such recurrence would have significant probative value in determining whether the competitive suppliers possess the requisite operational and managerial skills to warrant continued competitive retail electric or natural gas certifications in the state."

At the time that the settlement was first filed, in August 2025, Major Energy had provided the following statement concerning the matter:

"We are pleased to have worked collaboratively with the Staff of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel to resolve this matter. We are committed to providing first-rate customer service to our Ohio customers and ensuring our operations are compliant with state regulations."

--- August 28, 2025 statement from Major Energy

At the time that the settlement was first filed, in October 2025, Michael Osowski, CEO of Eligo Energy, LLC and Eligo Energy OH, LLC, had provided the following statement concerning the matter:

"Eligo Energy strives to provide value, good service, and fairness to our customers in Ohio and elsewhere. We will do what is needed to fulfill our duty to our customers. Eligo Energy has cooperated fully with PUCO Staff and OCC to both address potential issues and to strengthen our operations going forward."
