The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced the appointment of Kumar Barve as Chair of the Maryland Public Service Commission, succeeding Fred Hoover, who resigned as Chair but who will continue to serve as a Commissioner.
Barve’s appointment takes effect immediately
Barve stated, "The Governor, Chair Emeritus Fred Hoover and I agree that this moment in history
requires an assortment of new policy and legislative approaches -- to control energy
bills and to build a more stable and sustainable energy grid. I will boldly collaborate
with the Maryland Energy Administration, the Maryland Department of the
Environment and the Maryland General Assembly. I look forward to continuing our
advocacy on behalf of Maryland ratepayers before the regional grid operator, PJM,
and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission."
Prior to appointment as a Public Service Commissioner in 2023, Barve served 32 years in the Maryland House of Delegates, and held a number of leadership roles, including Chair of the House Environment and Transportation Committee from 2015 to 2023, and majority leader from 2003-2015.
