Retail Supplier Defaults At PJM, Customers To Be Returned To Default Service

Duke Energy Ohio, Inc. averred in a filing at the PUC of Ohio that Duke received a notice on February 11,
2026, from PJM Interconnection LLC (PJM), "stating that ResCom Energy, LLC dba NextVolt Energy
(NextVolt), a load-serving entity in PJM with load in the DEOK zone, had defaulted on its
obligations on February 11, 2026."
Duke Energy Ohio represented in a PUCO filing that, "Therefore, PJM indicated that it was required to initiate the process
of returning NextVolt’s load to the applicable provider of last resort."
Ohio Power (AEP Ohio) also said in a separate filing at PUCO that Ohio Power had received notice from PJM that ResCom Energy, LLC had defaulted on its
obligations to PJM
As of the morning of Feb. 13, 135 electric customers at Duke Energy Ohio were being served by NextVolt
At AEP Ohio, NextVolt had been serving 409 customers (401
residential, 6 commercial, 2 outdoor lights and 0 industrial)
AEP Ohio explained the transition process as follows: "Consistent with Ohio Revised Code ('R.C.') 4928.14 and Section 31.23 of the
Terms and Conditions of AEP Ohio’s OAD tariff (OAD Section 31.23), the
impacted customers will start to be returned to the Standard Service Offer after
commission approval on the customer’s scheduled cycle meter read date. The
Company will notify all customers of the default and allow 2 days for mailing.
Customers who have not been switched to either AEP’s SSO or another supplier on
their scheduled meter read date will be dropped to the Standard Service Offer no
more than 15 days from that of the default notice. AEP Ohio will honor all
incoming switches to new suppliers from the customers. Based on timing of the
default, the customer may switch to the Standard Service Offer for a brief time to
allow the customer notification of their pending switch request to the new CRES
and their right to rescind that switch."
AEP Ohio further noted that it is purchasing capacity to serve the customers dropped to the SSO
AEP Ohio stated, "AEP has initiated the purchase, on behalf of AEP Ohio, of the capacity needed for
the defaulting CRES customer allotment. The daily capacity and energy initial
settlement will be assigned to AEP Ohio prior to submission to PJM. To the extent
that AEP Ohio incurs additional costs that are not covered by the posted collateral,
the Company will seek cost recovery from the Commission for discharging its
obligations under R.C. 4928.14."
