The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Marubeni provided commentary on its recent launch of a retail electricity business in Texas aimed at corporate clients, through SmartestEnergy US LLC (SEUS)
SmartestEnergy US LLC's expansion to Texas had been announced last year (story here)
In discussing the expansion of SmartestEnergy into Texas, Marubeni noted Texas' load growth and cited a rising need for supply-demand balancing, including battery storage, in ERCOT. "As Texas is a market where SEUS can leverage its trading and risk management capabilities, the state is positioned as a key strategic region for future growth," Marubeni stated
"Under its Mid-Term Management Strategy GC2027, Marubeni is focusing on Strategic Platform Businesses (businesses with 'Growth Domains x High Added Value x Scalability'), as well as on capturing the domestic demand of the massive U.S. market. This Project involves refining and expanding the wholesale and retail power business, which is one such strategic platform business. Through this Project, Marubeni aims to enhance corporate value by promoting and expanding its retail power business in the U.S., where demand is expected to increase going forward," Marubeni stated
Marubeni reported that, since SEUS’s establishment in 2019 with an initial focus on the Northeast U.S., SEUS’s customer base has been growing at an annual rate of more than 100%
"By also leveraging SEL’s [UK company SmartestEnergy Limited] expertise as a major power retailer for data center operators in the United Kingdom, SEUS aims to provide high-value-added services aligned with customer needs in Texas and to expand the supply of renewable energy to high-tech companies and data centers," Marubeni said
