New York DPS Staff Report: 71% Of Mass Market ESCO Customers Are On Month to Month Contracts

Approximately 71% of mass market customers served by an ESCO in New York are on month to month contracts, according to data reported by Staff of the New York Dept. of Public Service
DPS Staff reported that a total of 384,292 ESCO customers are on month to month contracts
However, Staff reported that 16 ESCOs did not provide "full responses" to Staff's "multiple" attempts to obtain the necessary data for the report. Some of such 16 ESCOs are understood to be generally active if not necessarily serving New York customers. Staff identified by name the 16 ESCOs not providing "full responses" in a footnote on page 1 of Staff's report (click here)
The data reported by Staff, accordingly, should be understood to be incomplete
Per the reported data, of the ESCO customers on month to month contracts, 330,528 of such customers are mass market, with 53,764 month to month customers being commercial and industrial customers
Staff reported total ESCO customers across all products as 621,887, with 464,440 shopping customers being mass market, and 157,447 being commercial and industrial
In other words, of the 464,440 mass market ESCO customers, 330,528 mass market customers are on month to month contracts, or 71%
34% of commercial and industrial ESCO customers are on month to month contracts
