Residential Default Service Rate To Rise 20%; Small C&I Rate Increasing 16%
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Unitil in New Hampshire has filed new electric default service rates reflecting recent calculation changes directed by the New Hampshire PUC
The revised rates, for the 6-month period beginning August 1, 2026, reflect a reversion to the previously used proxy price calculation for the portion of SOS sourced directly from the ISO-NE market, and the use of a 12-month reconciliation mechanism, rather than a 6-month reconciliation mechanism, to which the PUC had originally directed a transition, but then ordered the continued use of a 12-month mechanism
For residential customers, the proxy price change and the reconciliation change ordered by the PUC result in a rate about 1.2 mills per kWh lower than the rate which resulted under the withdrawn changes to the proxy price and reconciliation mechanism
For residential customers, Unitil's fixed default service rate is to be $0.14348 per kWh for the 6-month period starting August 1, 2026, up about 20% from the current rate of $0.12061 per kWh
For the G2 and OL class, Unitil's fixed default service rate is to be $0.13037 per kWh for the 6-month period starting August 1, 2026, up about 16% from the current rate of $0.11253 per kWh
For G1 customers (large C&I), the monthly SOS rates are as follows:
$0.09344 per kWh for August 2026
$0.08219 per kWh for September 2026
$0.08246 per kWh for October 2026
$0.09887 per kWh for November 2026
$0.15709 per kWh for December 2026
$0.18236 per kWh for January 2027
Rates remain subject to PUC approval
The PUC has approved the results of the Unitil default service procurement.
H.Q. Energy Services (US), Inc. was awarded 50 percent of the power supply requirements for Small (residential)
customers for the six-month period beginning August 1, 2026. Constellation Energy Generation, LLC was awarded 50 percent of the power supply
requirements for Medium (G2 & OL) customers for the six-month period beginning August 1, 2026
