In providing a presentation to the Texas PUC on an initial annual report concerning the residential load reduction goal, PUC Staff recommended that the Commission take a comprehensive look at demand response as a whole, of which residential demand response is a portion

See details on Staff's initial residential load reduction goal report here

Staff said that, currently, residential demand response in ERCOT is not aligned with grid needs

Staff said that the objective of the comprehensive demand response review should be to ensure that demand response programs are designed and deployed in a manner that maximizes grid efficiency and economic efficiency

Commissioner Kathleen Jackson agreed that, in comprehensively considering all demand response, the primary objective of demand response should be to support the grid and the reliability of the grid

PUC Chair Thomas Gleeson said that the review should not only be comprehensive, but also coordinated with consideration of other demand response programs and proposals, citing ERCOT's proposed Nodal Protocol Revision Request (NPRR) 1296 which would create an ERCOT-funded program providing incentive payments to retail electric providers (via REPs' QSEs) for residential demand response (see details on 1296 here)
