The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio (CEOH) has petitioned the PUC of Ohio for immediate authority to begin transitioning the customers of SunSea Energy Ohio LLC to alternate supply options as soon as Vectren deems such transition feasible.

Vectren reported to PUCO Vectren's determination that SunSea Energy Ohio LLC is in default with various provisions of Vectren's tariff and pooling agreement

While a default finding filed by a utility is automatically approved after 10 business days unless PUCO directs otherwise, Vectren asked that the PUC not rely on the automatic approval process and instead grant the approval now, in order to expedite any customer transition and to reduce the impact on other customers and suppliers

Vectren alleged that, on February 24, 2026, SunSea failed to meet the minimum customer base requirements contained in Vectren's Tariff (and allegedly continues to not meet such), which require a Choice Supplier to maintain a minimum customer base of at least one hundred (100) active customers or a sales forecast of ten thousand (10,000) Mcf of annual projected Customer sales

Vectren alleged that as of May 2026, SunSea's customer base at Vectren Ohio was 81 customers, "at a sales volume of approximately 4813 Mcf".

Vectren alleged that SunSea has not responded to notices of default sent by Vectren, nor has Vectren been able to reach SunSea through various other means

SunSea has previously represented that SunSea suspended marketing in Ohio during a still-pending PUC investigation proceeding (background here)

Vectren said, "Although it is CEOH’s understanding that SunSea has suspended its marketing and enrollment activities pending the outcome of the Commission’s investigation [into SunSea's marketing practices], CEOH believes that SunSea is obligated to remain in compliance with all requirements of CEOH’s Tariff and Programs during the Commission’s investigation."
