Update #2, 10:00 a.m., Aug. 14

Tesla confirmed that the Powerwall under this plan is a Powerwall 3

Update #1, 11:49 a.m., 8/13

The retail electric plan associated with the offer (Tesla Electric Backup Plan) is a 100% renewable, 12-month fixed rate offer

In the Oncor service area, the Tesla Electric Backup Plan currently has an average all-in rate, at 1,000 kWh, of 14.5¢ per kWh, which reflects an Energy Charge of 8.0¢/kWh, and Delivery Charges of 6.1196¢/kWh and $4.06/month. The sellback credit for Powerwall Energy Exports is 14.1¢/kWh

The Tesla Electric Backup Plan is offered at all of the Texas investor-owned utilities with electric choice, plus LPL. Currently, the plan's energy rate is 8.0¢/kWh in all service areas, with the sellback credit and TDU charges varying

Prior to the application of the discount which results in the $35 per month lease cost, the lease for two Powerwall units is $122/month in the first year with a 3% annual escalator

Customers with solar panels installed at their home are not eligible for the plan

Earlier:

Tesla is launching in Texas a new residential retail electric plan that bundles a discounted Powerwall lease with electricity supply

The discounted Powerwall lease provides whole-home backup power for a fee of $35/month, and the retail electric plan includes a fixed electricity rate. Retail electric pricing for the plan was not immediately available

Specifically, the plan includes 2 Powerwall units installed with a $0 installation cost

The $35/month Powerwall lease payment reflects an $87 monthly bill credit applied automatically to the $122/month lease for customers enrolled in Tesla's retail electric plan, which Tesla said is 74% below the standard list price of Powerwall

"For the first time, Tesla is bundling home battery storage with a retail electricity plan. That means one company handling installation, the energy plan, software, and ongoing support," Tesla said

Tesla emphasized the bundle as lowering the barrier significantly for customer uptake of whole-home backup power

Tesla stated, "Tesla Electric actively manages Powerwall to store energy during low-cost periods and sell it back to the grid during high-cost periods, and those savings fund the monthly bill credit."

Tesla said that Powerwall always maintains a minimum 20% backup reserve, "so the homeowner's backup power is never compromised."

Tesla also emphasized its Storm Watch feature, a Powerwall feature that automatically charges the battery to full capacity before severe weather hits

Kevin Joyce, Tesla's global lead for virtual power plants and retail electricity, said in an interview with EnergyChoiceMatters.com that the new plan, "puts storage at the center of the offer and focuses on simplicity and providing customers with easy access to Powerwall as a backup solution".

Joyce described the plan as a, "consumer-friendly offer that provides a consumer-accessible price point," for a home backup power solution

Joyce also emphasized Tesla's new plan as providing a unified customer experience and an easy-to-understand value proposition

"We are pulling together our ability as a retailer with Tesla's ability to finance Powerwall, to install Powerwall, to operate the VPP, to do the market integration, and to leverage all of those capabilities from one established entity as a way to create a compelling solution," Joyce said

With Tesla's new bundled offer, customers don't need to separately piece together the financing, the bill savings, and VPP participation on their own, Joyce said

Tesla is the latest Texas retail electric provider to bundle discounted home energy storage with retail electricity

As previously reported (story here), Octopus earlier this year announced a plan combining an Octopus PowerStore 30 kWh home battery, professional installation, and an Octopus Energy US electricity plan into a single offering

Base and other companies previously launched similar offers
