Young College Entrepreneurs Launch Pennsylvania Retail Energy Comparison, Auto-Switching Service, Using AI Bots
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Worp Energy, a start-up formed by several young tech-focused entrepreneurs, has begun offering retail electric plan comparisons in Pennsylvania, using "AI bots" to find the best plans (and will eventually offer an auto-switching service)
"Advertised rates are systematically misleading," Worp Energy says, citing as an example monthly fees which are not reflected in a per-kWh advertised rate, with Worp's comparisons focused on actual billed amounts
Worp states that Worp analyzes "every available electricity plan" against the customer's real bill, not sticker rates
Worp's terms of service states that Worp's recommendations are estimates based on the usage information that the customer provides
Currently, Worp provides users with a "5-minute switch kit" under which the customer executes the switch, with Worp showing the customer exactly how to enroll with the selected retail supplier
Worp states on its website that its Pennsylvania PUC broker/marketer license application is pending and that, "once granted, we’ll be able to handle the switch entirely for you." Worp's founders in social media posts have described the future service as offering an automatic switching feature
Worp charges a monthly fee of $4.99/month, or $51.88 per year
Worp monitors a user's contract year-round and alerts the customer before renewal
Worp stares that Worp does not receive commissions from retail suppliers.
Worp says that the average household that Worp has analyzed saves $150–250/year. However, Worp Energy does not guarantee specific savings.
"If you've never switched suppliers -- or worse, if you switched once years ago and got rolled onto a variable rate -- you're probably who we built this for," Worp states
