Choice Utility To Rebrand, Dropping Trade Name Which Had Included Brand Shared By Retail Supplier

AEP Ohio is rebranding as "Ohio Power Company", with the trade name "AEP Ohio" being removed from the company's Ohio electric tariff and various customer-facing touch points
Ohio Power Company said, "Beginning Oct. 1, customers will start seeing the Ohio Power Company name on the company's website, bills, customer communications and other materials. The change brings greater visibility to the company's long-standing legal name while reinforcing its commitment to the 1.5 million customers it serves across Ohio."
The company's website, AEPOhio.com, will transition to OhioPowerCo.com in October
The logo for Ohio Power Company will continue to use the red parallelogram outline design of the AEP logo (used by other AEP companies including retail supplier AEP Energy), but with the words "Ohio Power Company" in the logo, rather than "AEP Ohio"
Ohio Power Company is also rolling out its previously reported new bill format coincident with the rebrand
EnergyChoiceMatters.com first reported on the bill changes (which were adopted by PUCO without modification) in our prior story here (click for full details, the only modification to these bill changes versus the earlier as-filed copies is replacing the AEP Ohio trade name with "Ohio Power Company", including in the logo)
As first reported by ECM, the revised bills include for residential SSO customers, as well as residential and commercial shopping customers, a new statement that Ohio Power is required to buy generation on behalf of SSO customers and that, "Ohio Power Company passes these charges through dollar-for-dollar and makes no money from them".
For the three bill types noted above, under a section of the bill labeled "Ohio Power Company Electric Grid", which describes the costs for delivery, the revised bill states, "Ohio Power Company's rates are reviewed and approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio."

The redesigned bill makes it easier for customers to understand what they are paying for, what costs Ohio Power controls and what costs customers can control themselves. It's just one way we are working to provide enhanced transparency for Ohioans."
