Email This Story

FirstEnergy Solutions has refreshed its Penelec residential pricing, and is now offering an introductory fixed price of 6.85 cents per kilowatt-hour on electric generation through November 2011.

The residential price increases to 7.29 cents per kWh through August 2013.

The pricing is available to the first 15,000 enrolling customers

As previously reported by Matters, the Penelec RS and RT price to compare increased to 7.624 cents per kWh, effective September 1 (9/1).

Residential customers qualifying to be served under one of FirstEnergy Solutions' ChamberChoice affinity programs (such as employees of eligible businesses) can receive discounted pricing of 6.80 cents per kWh through November 2011, and then 7.25 cents per kWh through August 2013.

The products include a $75 early termination fee.

FirstEnergy Solutions' current ChamberChoice business pricing at Penelec is 7.46 cents per kWh through June 2013, for rate codes GS, H, GS-Small, GS-Medium, and OL with annual usage less than 1 million kWh per account and total contract usage less than 2 million kWh.

The commercial products include an early termination fee according to the following schedule: $100 for each account less than 100,000 annual kWh, $400 for each account between 100,001 annual kWh to 400,000 annual kWh, and $1,500 for each account greater than 400,000 annual kWh

Both residential and commercial customers enrolling under the ChamberChoice program by October 14, 2011 will be automatically entered to win free electric generation from FirstEnergy Solutions for a year: up to a $5,000 value for commercial customers and a $1,000 value for residential customers.

Penelec is experiencing residential migration growth of about 2,000 accounts per week (see 9/2). Aside from FirstEnergy Solutions, active residential suppliers at Penelec offering service via PA Power Switch include BlueStar Energy Solutions, Constellation Energy, NextEra Energy Services, and Reliant Energy.
