Update On Number Of Customers In Ohio Served By ResCom Energy; Switching Fee Waived For POLR Drop Customers
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
The PUC of Ohio has reported the number of customers served by ResCom Energy, LLC d/b/a NextVolt Energy, which, as first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com last week, has defaulted on its obligations at PJM
PUCO disclosed that ResCom was serving about 820 customers. AEP Ohio had earlier reported that 409 customers had been being served by ResCom in its service area, while Duke Energy Ohio had earlier reported that 135 customers had been being served by ResCom in its service area. As previously reported, while the FirstEnergy Ohio EDCs had reported that there were customers being served by ResCom in their service area, the FirstEnergy Ohio EDCs had not reported the number of such customers
PUCO authorized the termination of the supplier coordination agreements between the EDCs and ResCom, given ResCom's default at PJM
PUCO confirmed that the utilities should return ResCom customers to the SSO (which has already been initiated at most EDCs), unless the affected customer
chooses an alternative retail supplier in the interim.
PUCO directed that any switching fee, which would otherwise normally apply, should be waived, for a period of 60 days, for any former ResCom customer who chooses a competitive retail supplier
PUCO noted that, when executing coordination agreements with retail suppliers, utilities are able require that retail suppliers post security as part of the coordination agreements
To the extent that the costs associated with procuring the necessary supply for
ResCom customers returning to the SSO exceed the amounts of the financial securities from ResCom held by
the EDCs, PUCO held that the EDCs may request to defer and recover those incremental costs in a
subsequent application at the Commission.
