PSC In State Where Retail Suppliers Bill Customers Orders Suspension Of Disconnections, Late Fees To Customers Who Are TSA Employees

The Georgia PSC issued an order adopting a moratorium on shut offs, and waiver of late fees, for Transportation Safety [sic] Administration (TSA) employees
The disconnection moratorium for TSA workers is subject to employment verification
Under the PSC's order, past due balances for "utility services" shall be due within 30 days once the partial U.S. government shutdown ends and the TSA employees’ back pay is restored
The PSC noted in a news release that, "Although Georgia has several natural gas marketers, Atlanta Gas Light maintains the
pipeline infrastructure and is responsible for connecting and disconnecting service."
Retail suppliers initiate shut-offs for non-payment, in requests which are sent to AGL
The PSC's news release is clear that AGL, as the entity physically performing disconnections, is included in the moratorium
However, with respect to late fees, the PSC's order is not explicit. The brief order, reproduced in its substantive entirety below, makes reference only to "utilities" with respect to late fees:
PSC Order:
"During the April 2, 2026, Committees, Commissioner Pridemore presented a Motion applicable to Georgia utilities under Georgia Public Service Commission jurisdiction. Due to the length of the partial government shutdown, Transportation Safety [sic] Administration (TSA) employees served by Georgia utilities shall be under a moratorium on shut offs, subject to employment verification. Further, late fees accumulated during the partial government shutdown shall be waived by utilities. Utility services past due balances shall be due within 30 days once the shutdown ends and the TSA employees’ back pay is restored.
"WHEREFORE IT IS ORDERED that the Commission hereby grants Commissioner Pridemore’s Motion for Utilities to Install a Moratorium on Shut Offs and Late Fees for TSA Workers, proposed on April 2, 2026."
