Potomac Edison in Maryland has filed updates to the Type I and Type II electricity SOS rates

The Type I rates have been updated through May 31, 2027, with distinct rates for two separate periods: June 1, 2026 through September 30, 2026, and October 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027

The Type II SOS rates have been updated for the period June 1, 2026 through August 31, 2026

As most Potomac Edison Type I classes include either both an energy charge and a capacity charge under the SOS rates and/or include distinct SOS rates for blocks of usage (except for C-A all electric and certain lighting and unmetered classes), calculating a single amount of percent change in the SOS rate is not appropriate

However, both the Type I and Type II SOS rates are increasing on June 1.

For General Service Schedule "G" Type I SOS customers, the SOS capacity charge, applicable to all kilowatts in excess of 7.5, is increasing from the current $9.36 per kW to $9.99 per per kW on June 1, 2026, and to $11.44 per kW on October 1, 2026

For General Service Schedule "G" Type I SOS customers, the first block of the SOS energy charge (0-700 kWh) is increasing from the current 12.328 cents per kWh to 13.108 per kWh on June 1, 2026, and to 15.064 cents per kWh on October 1, 2026

As another illustrative example, the current and June 1, 2026 Type I SOS rates are below for General And Commercial Service Schedule "C", generally showing a 6% increase in the first two usage blocks

Potomac Edison
Type I SOS
$/kWh
General And Commercial Service Schedule "C"
                               6/1/26 -
                  Current 9/30/26
0-350 kWh $0.14857 $0.15798
next 350 kWh $0.14551 $0.15503
over 700 kWh $0.05711 $0.06069

The SOS rates for first two usage blocks (up to 700 kWh) for Type I General And Commercial Service Schedule "C" will further increase to about 18 cents per kWh for the October 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027 period.

Complete rate details for all Type I and Type II rate classes can be found in PE's filing here
