ComEd Files Indicative Default Service Rates For June 1 Which Would Result In 9% Increase In Price To Compare For Residential, Small Commercial Customers

Commonwealth Edison in Illinois has filed indicative updates to the Purchased Electricity Charges (PECs) and PJM Services Charges (Transmission Services Charge) for electricity default service customers for the period starting June 1, 2026
The indicative PECs filed by ComEd with the Illinois Commerce Commission reflect the results of the spring default service procurement, but do not reflect the results of upcoming PJM Financial Transmission Rights (FTR) Auctions. Historically, the impact of the FTR auctions on PECs is a few mills per kWh. ComEd will file final PECs in May
The PECs reflect the cost of energy and capacity. The full Price to Compare includes the PEC plus ComEd's PJM Services Charge (PSC), which reflects the cost of transmission.
While ComEd has also filed new PSCs, these PSCs do not yet reflect any update to the Transmission Formula Rate Annual Revenue Requirement which typically occurs prior to June 1.
ComEd will file final PJM Services Charges in May
Regarding the new PECs, the indicative residential PEC for the period June 2026 through September 2026 is 8.817 cents per kWh, or about 12% higher than the current ComEd residential PEC of 7.841 cents per kWh.
When including the indicative PSC (shown below), which under the indicative filing would decrease, the June 1 increase in the residential price to compare would be 9%
The indicative Watt-hour Non-Electric Space Heating PEC for the period June 2026 through September 2026 is 8.868 cents per kWh, or about 13% higher than the current ComEd Watt-hour Non-Electric Space Heating PEC of 7.870 cents per kWh
When including the indicative PSC (shown below), which under the indicative filing would decrease, the June 1 increase in the Watt-hour Non-Electric Space Heating price to compare would be 9%
ComEd's filed indicative PECs and PSCs are below. Again, these PECs are not final and will likely change prior to taking effect on June 1
ComEd also filed indicative non-summer PECs for the period October 2026 to May 2027, but as additional supplies for this period may be procured in a fall procurement, the rates are subject to change and are not posted here
