FirstEnergy Ohio Combined Energy, Capacity SSO Rates To Increase Up To 14% For Residential Customers; 6% For Small Commercial

The FirstEnergy Ohio utilities have filed updates to Rider GEN (Generation Service Rider), which reflect standard service offer (SSO) energy and capacity, for the period June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027

Rider GEN makes up the vast majority of the price to compare at the FirstEnergy Ohio EDCs. The PTC does include several other bypassable riders (AER, GCR, NDU) which are updated under a separate schedule and typically are next updated on July 1.

The filed Rider GEN rates do not include separate summer and winter rates for either energy or capacity.

For RS residential customers at Cleveland Electric Illuminating (The Illuminating Company), the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase nearly 14% to 10.1386 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 8.9078 cents per kWh.

For all RS residential rates listed in this story, the rate is the standard RS rate, non-PIPP, and non-TOU

For RS residential customers at Ohio Edison, the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase nearly 13% to 10.0253 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 8.8919 cents per kWh

For RS residential customers at Toledo Edison, the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase nearly 11% to 10.1870 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 9.1812 cents per kWh

For GS General Service - Secondary customers at Cleveland Electric Illuminating (The Illuminating Company), the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase 6% to 9.4503 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 8.8830 cents per kWh

For GS General Service - Secondary customers at Ohio Edison, the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase nearly 6% to 9.3786 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 8.8698 cents per kWh

For GS General Service - Secondary customers at Toledo Edison, the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase 6% to 9.4310 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 8.8956 cents per kWh

For GP General Service - Primary customers at Cleveland Electric Illuminating (The Illuminating Company), the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase 9% to 9.0466 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 8.2640 cents per kWh

For GP General Service - Primary customers at Ohio Edison, the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase 10% to 8.8451 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 8.0174 cents per kWh

For GP General Service - Primary customers at Toledo Edison, the combined energy and capacity rate under Rider GEN will increase nearly 8% to 8.7772 cents per kWh on June 1, 2026, from the current 8.1475 cents per kWh
