Ameren Residential, Small Commercial Default Service Energy Charges To Increase 40% On June 1
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Ameren has filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission new Retail Purchased Electricity Charges for the period beginning June 1, 2026
The Retail Purchased Electricity Charge is the largest portion of the price to compare. The PTC also includes the Supply Cost Adjustment and Transmission Service Charge. The bypassable PEA is not included in the PTC
Because the Transmission Service Charge and Supply Cost Adjustment may adjust on different schedules versus the Retail Purchased Electricity Charge, only the Retail Purchased Electricity Charges are discussed herein, and the other components included in the PTC have not been added to the Retail Purchased Electricity Charges listed below
Additionally, while Ameren has, as is customary, filed new Retail Purchased Electricity Charges for the entire period through May 31, 2027, supply beyond summer 2026 is subject to a potential fall 2026 procurement, and the Retail Purchased Electricity Charges for the non-summer 2026-27 period may change, and thus only the summer Retail Purchased Electricity Charges are discussed herein
The residential summer 2026 Retail Purchased Electricity Charge does not vary by usage, unlike the usage-tiered non-summer residential rate
For residential (BGS-1) customers at Ameren Illinois, the Retail Purchased Electricity Charge will increase 38% to 8.200 cents per kWh on June 1, from the current rate of 5.927 cents per kWh which is applicable to the first 800 kWh of usage in the current non-summer period (the current non-summer rate is 5.008 cents per kWh for usage above 800 kWh)
For Small General Service Secondary (BGS-2) customers at Ameren Illinois, the Retail Purchased Electricity Charge will increase 44% to 10.226 cents per kWh on June 1, from the current rate of 7.109 cents per kWh
For Small General Service Primary (BGS-2) customers at Ameren Illinois, the Retail Purchased Electricity Charge will increase 44% to 10.020 cents per kWh on June 1, from the current rate of 6.958 cents per kWh
Retail Purchased Electricity Charges for additional classes, and for the non-summer period (on an indicative basis), may be found in Ameren's filing here
