In reporting earnings for the quarter ending March 31, 2026, NRG Energy reported that it is serving 5.65 million Home energy customers as of 1Q26, up from 5.63 million as of December 31, 2025

NRG reported that its Texas Home energy customer count as of 1Q26 was 2.83 million, down from 2.86 million as of 4Q25. During an earnings call, an NRG executive noted that NRG has made choices concerning the quality of customers it serves in Texas and managing bad debt, but said that there are segments in Texas where NRG is under-penetrated and anticipates returning to Texas residential growth

NRG reported that its East/West/Other Home energy customer count as of 1Q26 was 2.82 million, up from 2.77 million as of 4Q25

NRG reported that it had 2.37 million Smart Home customers as of 1Q26.

NRG reported that its Texas residential VPP program has surpassed 200 MW, and said that the program is, "on track for 1 GW by 2035".

NRG reported its first quarter retail load and natural gas sales as follows:

              1Q25 1Q26
           Texas EWO Texas EWO
Power Load (TWh)
Home 8 5 7 5
Business 9 14 9 14
Total 17 19 16 19

Natural Gas Sales (MDths)
Total -- 616 -- 647

NRG reported Adjusted EBITDA of $1,080 million for the first quarter of 2026, down from $1,126 million a year ago, due to, among other factors, mild weather in Texas and increased supply costs in the East

For NRG's Texas segment, first quarter 2026 Adjusted EBITDA was $216 million, $83 million lower than the prior year. The decrease was primarily driven by mild winter weather, including a ~30% decrease in heating degree days as compared to the prior year, leading to lower retail load, and additional operating expenses for new generation assets.

For NRG's East segment, first quarter 2026 Adjusted EBITDA was $464 million, $10 million lower than the prior year. The decrease was primarily driven by higher power supply costs during Winter Storm Fern, partially offset by the contribution of the generation assets and CPower acquired from LS Power.

For NRG's West/Other segment, first quarter 2026 Adjusted EBITDA was $106 million, $33 million higher than the prior year. The increase was primarily driven by lower power supply costs.

For NRG's Vivint Smart Home segment, first quarter 2026 Adjusted EBITDA was $294 million, $14 million higher than the prior year. The increase was attributable to "strong" growth in customer count and an increase in monthly recurring service margin per customer.
