Watt Marshal LLC, a start-up, has registered as a Texas retail electric broker

Evan Wakefield is the Owner and Founder ·of Watt Marshal LLC. Wakefield is an electrical engineer by trade

Using a customer's SMT data, Watt Marshal LLC will produce a report that ranks fixed-rate electricity plans, including from power to choose, by what the plans would have cost over the customer's last twelve months of usage (or a customer may see comparisons based on a typical year for a household of the customer's selected size), taking into account a plan's usage-based credits, etc.

Watt Marshal emphasizes that, "every number is traceable to the document it came from," with the reports including links to EFLs and TDU tariffs

Watt Marshal will offer a report for a one-time fee and the service is not a subscription

Watt Marshal does not rank variable-rate, time-of-use, and prepaid plans, "because we cannot estimate their annual cost reliably from monthly totals," Watt Marshal states

"That is a limit of our method, not a judgment on those plans, and the report says so where it applies," Watt Marshal states

Watt Marshal further states on its website concerning variable rate plans, "every one we track is month-to-month, the rate can change at the provider's discretion, and when we priced the market against the fixed-rate plans sold alongside them, the variable ones came out higher on average -- with the lowest-cost fixed plans well below the lowest-cost variable plan in every area we cover. We'd rather leave these plans out and tell you why than put a guess in your report."

Watt Marshal states, "We take no commission, no placement fee, no referral payment and no advertising money from any retail electricity provider, and we hold no financial interest in one. Nothing about which plan you choose, or whether you switch at all, changes what we earn."
