Default Service Auction Winning Prices Are 8-14% Higher

The PUC of Ohio has approved the results of the October 2026 procurement for a portion of default service electricity supplies at Dayton Power & Light (AES Ohio) for various periods beginning June 1, 2027
The October 2026 auction procured 15 tranches for the period June 1, 2027 to May 31, 2028 at a clearing price of $105.92 per MWh
The October 2026 auction procured 16 tranches for the period June 1, 2027 to May 31, 2029 at a clearing price of $105.75 per MWh
While the delivery periods are not directly comparable, the clearing prices are elevated compared to the spring 2026 and fall 2025 SSO auctions at Dayton Power & Light
The spring 2026 auction had produced clearing prices of about $97.60 per MWh for one- and two-year delivery periods starting June 1, 2026 (the October 2026 auction prices are about 8% higher)
The fall 2025 auction had produced clearing prices of about $93.00 per MWh for one- and two-year delivery periods starting June 1, 2026 (the October 2026 auction prices are about 14% higher)
In the October 2026 procurement, there were 6 winning bidders overall, with 6 winning bidders for the June 1, 2027 to May 31, 2028 tranches, and 5 winning bidders for the June 1, 2027 to May 31, 2029 tranches
The identities of the winning bidders will be posted in about 21 days
