Dominion Retail Reports Higher Operating Earnings

Dominion Retail reported operating earnings before interest and taxes of $66 million for the first quarter of 2011, up from $38 million a year ago.
Total average customer count for the three months ended March 31, 2011 increased to 2.121 million, from 2.095 million as of December 31, 2010, and 1.954 million a year ago.

Operating revenue from non-regulated retail electric sales was $314 million during the first quarter, versus $273 million a year ago. Operating revenue from non-regulated retail gas sales was $354 million, versus $392 million a year ago
Dominion also announced in reporting earnings that it is pursuing a sale of its merchant Kewaunee nuclear generating station in Wisconsin, as the plant no longer fits Dominion's strategy. Dominion had acquired the plant in 2005 in the hopes of acquiring additional nuclear generation in the Midwest, but it was not successful in bidding for other plants available at that time.
