Payless Power, a trade name for Young Energy, has begun offering AMS-based prepaid service in ERCOT.
Previously, Young Energy had offered prepaid service based on estimation. Young Energy's intent to offer AMS-based prepaid service was first reported in Matters (10/3).
Prepaid service is offered at Oncor, CenterPoint, and both AEP Texas service areas.
Payless Power's SmarTricity with Flex Pay prepaid product is a monthly variable rate. Current rates are 12.9 cents per kWh at Oncor and 13.9 cents per kWh at CenterPoint (average based on 1,000 kWh usage). The average rates reflect a daily service charge of 33 cents in addition to commodity and TDU charges.
The initial connection balance is $60, inclusive of any TDU fees.
In addition to daily e-mail or text alerts on usage, Payless Power will mail to customers a weekly supplement detailing usage information, at no additional charge. This "Flex-Pay Schedule" forecasts consumption, and presents various payment options for the customer to consider, along with the expected number of days of service.
Additionally, Payless Power, which has been focused on the advance pay/prepay market, said that it will begin offering post-pay service starting November 1.
