TXU Energy has launched a new residential Time of Use product tailored for customers with electric vehicles or distributed solar generation.
The PowerSmart PM 24 plan prices electricity according to three tiers: nighttime, off-peak and peak hours.
TXU said that the 24-month plan categorizes more than 90 percent of all hours in a year as off-peak or nighttime hours, which feature lower rates.
Peak Hours are between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays, Monday through Friday, during the calendar months of May through October, except Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day.
Off-Peak Hours are all hours during the calendar year not designated as Peak or Night hours.
Night Hours are between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. all days and all months of the year.
The energy charge in the indexed product varies based on time of day. In addition to the energy charge, flat monthly charges also apply, and, depending on service area, additional volumetric charges and credits, which are not time-based, may also apply (see listing below).
The plan is available to customers with provisioned advanced meters at Oncor and CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric.
At Oncor, pricing for the TXU Energy PowerSmart PM 24 plan is as follows:
Base Charge: $5.95 per month
Advanced Meter Charge: $2.19 per month

Night Hours: 6.8¢ per kWh
This equates to an average rate of 10.5¢ per kWh at Oncor, for customers with 1,000 kWh usage.

Though labeled an index product since a calculation is used to determine the charges, TXU said that the individual rate components will only change due to changes in law or regulatory charges.
The product includes an early termination fee of $295
