The New York PSC yesterday posted electric migration statistics for the months of July and August 2011.

Matters would note that there appear to be some data entry errors in the Consolidated Edison data for August 2011 (resulting in a residential migration rate of 432% as total eligible customers were under-counted), but it appears the actual amount of migrated ConEd customers is correct. Additionally, all other utility data appears correct, and are consistent with trends in recent months. Accordingly, the stats discussed below should be read with that caveat.

The monthly migration reports for July and August are below:

Matters has also compiled a comparison of the June, July, and August residential migration stats, as reported in the files posted yesterday, in terms of accounts.

What is notable in the stats as they were posted yesterday is that, from July to August, Niagara Mohawk reversed the decline in migrated residential customers seen during the preceding two months. Specifically, for August, NiMo saw residential migration grow by 2,300 accounts versus the July total.

From July to August, Consolidated Edison saw net growth in residential migration of nearly 5,600 accounts.

All other utilities saw marginal residential migration growth from July to August, with the exception of Rochester Gas & Electric, which saw a net decline in residential migration of 119 accounts during this period.

Per the PSC's report posted yesterday, residential migration as a percent of accounts for August 2011 was:

Central Hudson: 7.5%

Consolidated Edison: 20.0% (July 2011)

Niagara Mohawk: 18.6%

NYSEG: 23.2%

Orange & Rockland: 34.3%

Rochester Gas & Electric: 23.8%
