ERCOT is considering a Distributed Load Aggregation program, which would allow smaller customers to provide demand response during emergencies, it said in a resource adequacy status report to the PUCT.

ERCOT Staff is developing the proposal in conjunction with market participants. Although no specifics have been decided, the program is envisioned as providing 30-50 MW of capacity, which would be deployed when necessary due to grid conditions, similar to other demand response programs available to ERCOT.

The Distributed Load Aggregation would allow smaller customers, including residential customers, to participate through a third party that has the technology in place to aggregate load.

ERCOT reports there is a potential from the program to be implemented by the summer of 2012.
