Direct Energy Business announced that it will begin providing competitive electricity supply services to commercial and industrial customers in the Consumers Energy service territory of south central Michigan.

Direct Energy Business will offer commercial and industrial electricity customers a suite of fixed and index products.

Direct Energy Business also serves commercial and industrial customers at Detroit Edison.

As indicated in the Michigan PSC's annual report on retail choice, Direct Energy Business did serve a limited amount of load at Consumers in 2011 (3 MW at year-end), but the total was much lower than Direct Energy Business's total at Detroit Edison (108 MW), indicating that its entry into the Consumers service area had been limited.
