The Public Utility Commission of Texas will review the issue of providing customers with an "opt-out" from advanced metering.

Specifically, the Commission directed Staff to open a project to gather information on the issue, and bring back a recommendation on how to move forward.

PUCT Chair Donna Nelson reported that she has received a lot of notes from customers about an opt-out.

While opening the project to review the issue, Commissioners expressed support for smart meters.

Commissioner Rolando Pablos noted that smart meters are extremely important for resource adequacy, while Commissioner Kenneth Anderson noted their reliability benefits, particularly in outage restoration.
