Nstar said this morning that large customers in the Boston area would see the cost of basic service fall by 34% under new rates filed with the DPU.

Specifically, Nstar said that the fixed price basic service rate for large commercial and industrial customers (Rates B3, B7, 62, 70) in the NEMA zone would drop to 5.530 cents per kilowatt-hour for the three month period beginning April 1, 2012, from the current 8.351 cents.

The rates under the monthly variable option, as well as rates for the SEMA zone, were not immediately available.
