Algonquin Power to Acquire Wind Generation in Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. announced that subsidiary Algonquin Power Co. has entered into an agreement to acquire a 480 MW portfolio of four wind power projects from Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica, S.A. for total consideration of approximately $888 million. The 480 MW wind portfolio consists of four facilities -- Minonk (200 MW), Senate (150 MW), Pocahontas Prairie (80 MW) and Sandy Ridge (50 MW) located in the states of Illinois, Texas, Iowa, and Pennsylvania, respectively. J.P. Morgan Energy Ventures Corporation has provided a commitment for long term, fixed price power sales contracts for the facilities with a weighted average life of 11.8 years (Minonk and Sandy Ridge 10 years, Senate 15 years). Based on the JPMVEC purchase volume commitments, approximately 73% of energy revenues would be earned under the power sales contracts. All energy produced in excess of that sold under the power sales contracts, together with ancillary services including capacity and renewable energy credits, will be sold into the energy markets in which the facilities are located.

Constellation Energy Signs Three-Year Deal with Eastern Bank

Constellation Energy said that it has signed an agreement to supply Eastern Bank, based in Boston, Mass., with more than 30 million kilowatt-hours of electricity for the next three years. The supply will be 100% offset through the use of RECs. The deal was brokered through Taylor Consulting.
