Growth in Residential Customers on Competitive Supply Slows at BGE, Pepco

The growth in the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply at Baltimore Gas & Electric and Pepco slowed during January, but increased at Potomac Edison, according to the latest stats from the Maryland PSC.

From the end of December to the end of January, BGE saw the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply increase by about 1,500 accounts, down from the growth of 2,750 accounts in December, growth of 3,100 accounts during November, and growth of 4,100 accounts during October.
At Pepco, the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply increased by 560 accounts during January, versus the December growth of 800 accounts.
At Potomac Edison (FirstEnergy), the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply increased by over 700 accounts during January, versus the December growth of 300 accounts.
At Delmarva the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply decreased by 7 during January, versus the December decline of 17 accounts.
Also notable is that BGE and Delmarva both saw a decline in the number of Type II customers taking competitive supply during January. Although the declines were marginal (40 at BGE, 12 at Delmarva), the class usually sees marginal growth month to month.
