Decline of Residential Shopping at South Jersey Gas Continues, PSE&G Growth Strong

South Jersey Gas continues to see a decline in the number of residential customers taking competitive supply, while growth in shopping among residential gas customers continues to be strong at Public Service Electric and Gas, according to the latest data from the New Jersey BPU.
The BPU has posted natural gas migration data, including accounts and load migrated, as of March 2012 (click here).
A comparison by Matters of accounts migrated in March 2012 versus the most recent publicly posted data prior to March 2012, which had been January 2012, can be found here.
From January 2012 to March 2012, South Jersey Gas saw the number of residential customers on competitive supply decrease by nearly 400. During this period, the number of choice-eligible distribution accounts increased marginally.
Prior to January 2012, the most recent natural gas migration stats had been from October 2011, and from October 2011 to January 2012, South Jersey Gas had seen the number of residential customers on competitive supply decline by 5,300 accounts.
At PSE&G, the number of residential gas customers on competitive supply increased by 12,000 from January 2012 to March 2012. For comparison, over the period October 2011 to January 2012 (a month-longer period), PSE&G had also seen residential shopping grow by 12,000 accounts.
From January 2012 to March 2012, New Jersey Natural Gas saw the number of residential customers on competitive supply increase by only 164 accounts, while Elizabethtown Gas saw the number of residential customers on competitive supply increase by 530 accounts during the same period.
