TXU Sees Improvement in Customer Churn

TXU Energy saw its lowest rate of residential customer churn in seven quarters, during the first quarter of 2012.

From December 31, 2011 to March 31, 2012, TXU Energy lost a net of 22,000 residential customers. This compares favorably to the net loss of 33,000 residential customers seen from September 30, 2011 to December 31, 2011, and the net loss 48,000 customers seen from June 30, 2011 to September 30, 2011.

It's also the lowest rate of net residential churn seen in seven quarters, since the net loss of 19,000 customers from March 31, 2010 to June 30, 2010.

As of March 31, 2012, TXU's residential customer count was 1.603 million, versus 1.625 million as of December 31, 2011, and 1.739 million a year ago.

TXU's small business (< 1 MW) customer count stood at 179,000 meters as of March 31, 2012, versus 185,000 meters as of December 31, 2011, and 208,000 meters a year ago. The net loss of 6,000 small business meters is in line with the net loss of 5,000 small business meters from September 30, 2011 to December 31, 2011.

TXU's large business customer count as of March 31, 2012 was 17,000 meters, versus 19,000 meters as of December 31, 2011 and 22,000 meters a year ago.

Total retail customer count was 1.799 million meters as of March 31, 2012, versus was 1.829 million meters as of December 31, 2011 and 1.969 million meters a year ago.
