An affiliate of Viridian Energy has begun offering electric service under the brand of another incumbent local exchange carrier.

Specifically, Viridian Energy MD, LLC has changed its name to Fairpoint Energy, LLC, having entered into a licensing agreement with FairPoint Communications, an ILEC serving Maine and New Hampshire.

Fairpoint Energy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Regional Energy Holdings, Inc. Regional Energy Holdings, Inc. is also the parent of the various Viridian suppliers (such as Viridian Energy PA LLC). Though affiliated, Fairpoint Energy is separate and distinct from the Viridian Energy suppliers.

A separate Regional Energy Holdings, Inc. company is using a similar ILEC-branded strategy in Ohio, where it offers retail energy service in the Duke Energy Ohio territory as Cincinnati Bell Energy.

FairPoint Energy's website currently lists residential service as available at Central Maine Power, Bangor Hydro-Electric, and Public Service of New Hampshire.

Under a limited time launch offer, FairPoint Energy is offering customers a monthly variable rate with guaranteed aggregate savings of 10% versus the utility supply rate for the first 12 months.

FairPoint Energy's current residential variable offers are as follows:

PSNH: 100% Green, Variable: 7.48¢/kWh

CMP: 100% Green, Variable: 6.69¢/kWh

BHE: 100% Green, Variable: 6.42¢/kWh

FairPoint Energy is currently undergoing a soft launch under which its service is offered via the FairPoint Communications call center, but to date FairPoint Communications has not otherwise prominently marketed the new energy service in its printed communications with customers or on its website.
