American Power Partners LLC has acquired retail supplier U.S. Energy Partners LLC.

American Power Partners LLC, led by Robert J. Kreppel, is a privately held retail supplier that operates as a retail energy provider in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

U.S. Energy Partners is licensed in several states but its customer base is primarily focused in western New York.

Kreppel had previously founded and led U.S. Energy Partners before monetizing the investment in 2010 by selling the company to Paetec Holding Corp.

Paetec was recently acquired by Windstream Corporation, which elected to sell the retail energy business, stating that, "the energy market is outside of our core business."

For the three months ended March 31, 2012, Windstream reported that its retail energy business recorded a net loss of $100,000 with revenues of $7.2 million.
