PECO Seeks Accelerated Increase in Bypassable Transmission Cost

PECO has filed at the Pennsylvania PUC to increase its electric Transmission Service Charge (TSC) on October 1, 2012, versus the customary January 1, 2013 revision, to avoid accumulating a large under-collection and to avoid a larger increase come January.
The TSC is a bypassable charge.
"Due to increases in customers purchasing energy from competitive electric suppliers and a warmer winter in 2012, a substantial under collection has developed. This has prompted the Company to file earlier that normal to prevent the under collection and interest from growing even larger," PECO said.
PECO said that the proposed tariff changes allow for recovery of the under collection sooner and would lessen the need for a larger rate increase in January 2013.
The tariff changes also provide alignment with the PJM calendar year (June through May). "This alignment will provide greater precision in projecting Transmission cost," PECO said.
Under PECO's filing, the residential (R & RH) TSC would increase to $0.0096 per kWh, from $0.0074 per kWh.
The small C&I TSC would increase to $3.21 per billed kW, from $2.57 per billed kW.
