The Maryland PSC has approved an application for the licensure of curtailment service providers, starting a deadline before which curtailment service providers currently active in the state must apply.

As previously reported, the Maryland Public Service Commission last year determined that curtailment service providers operating within Maryland qualify as "electricity suppliers" under Public Utilities Article § 1-101(j) and must be licensed as electricity suppliers as a condition of doing business in the state.

The order further stated that all existing curtailment service providers within Maryland shall file an application for license to operate as a curtailment service provider in the State of Maryland within 90 days of the Commission’s approval of such form.

The application has now been approved by the Commission, and is available at: http://webapp.psc.state.md.us/Intranet/sitesearch/electric/cspapp.doc

Therefore, all curtailment service providers currently doing business in Maryland must file the Application by no later than November 8, 2012, the PSC said in an August 9 notice.
