Matters has also developed a comparison of the residential migration (by accounts) during March, April, and May 2012.

Most notable is a 40,000 customer drop in residential electric shopping at NiMo from March 2012 to May 2012. This coincides with a decrease of 40,000 residential customer accounts eligible for choice during the same timeframe.

At Consolidated Edison, 670,000 residential electric accounts were on competitive supply in May 2012, a 20,000 increase versus March 2012.

As more fully shown in the linked comparison chart above, the monthly shopping change at the remaining utilities since March 2012 was generally marginal, though Central Hudson and NYSEG did each record a month with net growth of at least 1,200 residential shoppers.

The percent of residential electric customers on competitive electric supply as of May 2012 was as follows:

Central Hudson: 10.6%
ConEd: 24.0%
NiMo: 17.9%
NYSEG: 24.5%
Orange & Rockland: 37.6%
Rochester Gas & Electric: 25.2%
