Mass Megawatts Wind Power, Inc. this morning announced plans, "to position itself as an affordable, green-energy supplier in the Northeast region of the United States," with the launch of a retail energy sales division in December.
Mass Megawatts Wind Power, Inc. is a developer of various wind power technologies.
Specifically, Mass Megawatts said that it, "will offer discounted electrical rates to commercial and residential electricity users in several states, including Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Illinois." Such discounted electric plans and rates, "will comply with renewable energy standards and requirements."
A company representative could not be reached prior to publication time.
It was unclear whether the company will act as a retail supplier, or broker/marketer.
Unless the company is using a different trade name, a review by Matters did not indicate that the company was licensed as a retail supplier (or had applied for a license in such states where applications are publicly docketed) in the states cited above. This suggests the company will be a broker/marketer or agent, especially given its desired December launch, though a quote below suggests that the company will exercise control over pricing, as a retail supplier would
"As part of the company's pre-launch efforts, Mass Megawatts started initial marketing efforts in Massachusetts earlier this month," the company said.
"Mass Megawatts indicates that their expansion into the retail electrical market is a logical, strategic progression that diversifies their business model while improving future earnings potential," the company said.
"The electricity plans are expected to be offered at approximately 10% discount over current rates, and will be available to 90% of electricity users in seven states within a few weeks," the company said.
Mass Megawatts said that, "In addition, future applications of the company's patented, Wind Augmentation System are expected to further reduce the green energy rates offered by the company." While the term may have been used inartfully, the use of the term "rates" here, rather than "cost," suggests that the system would be integrated into the retail commodity price, which suggests a level of pricing control reserved to retail suppliers rather than brokers.
