Data Shows Striking Contrast Between Residential Shopping Growth in Most Ohio Territories, Backslide at Two FirstEnergy EDCs

Migration statistics from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio as of September 30, 2012 show a stark contrast between the large quarterly residential migration growth seen in most territories, and the loss of residential customers on competitive supply at Cleveland Electric Illuminating and Ohio Edison.

According to the data posted by PUCO, the change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply from June 30, 2012 to September 30, 2012 was at follows:
AEP Ohio: +36,439 Cleveland Electric Illuminating: (6,019) Dayton Power & Light: +26,663 Duke Energy Ohio: +58,150 Ohio Edison: (1,434) Toledo Edison: +4,726
As indicated above, all utilities with the exception of the FirstEnergy EDCs saw the growth in residential shoppers exceed 25,000 from June 30, 2012 to September 30, 2012.
Two of the three FirstEnergy EDCs saw a loss in the number of residential customers on competitive supply. The change in total residential distribution accounts during this time was marginal.
The total number of residential customers on competitive supply as of September 30, 2012 was as follows, with the percent of residential accounts shopping listed in brackets:
