Baltimore Gas & Electric Sees Spike in Monthly Growth in Residential Customers on Competitive Supply

The monthly growth in the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply at Baltimore Gas & Electric jumped during the months of August, September, and October, versus the July growth (the most recent stats previously published), according to new stats posted by the Maryland PSC yesterday.

The Maryland PSC has now posted electric migration data for the months of August, September, and October 2012. The most recent stats had previously been from July 2012.

Matters has also developed a comparison of the change in residential accounts on competitive supply at each utility in each month from July through October.

BGE saw monthly growth in the number of residential customers on competitive supply during each month as follows:

August:      +3,853
September:   +3,124
October:     +4,800

For comparison, the July growth in residential shopping at BGE had been only 1,300 accounts.

At Pepco, the monthly growth in the number of residential customers on competitive supply during each month was as follows:

August:      +1,093
September:      +52
October:       +844

For comparison, the July growth in residential shopping at Pepco had been 2,100 accounts.

At Potomac Edison, the monthly growth in the number of residential customers on competitive supply during each month was as follows:

August:     +1,644
September:    +797
October:    +1,392

For comparison, the July growth in residential shopping at Potomac Edison had been 470 accounts.

At Delmarva, the monthly growth in the number of residential customers on competitive supply during each month was as follows:

August:     +1,390
September:    +605
October:    +1,028

For comparison, the July growth in residential shopping at Delmarva had been 1,300 accounts.

As a percent of residential electric customers, Maryland migration to competitive supply was as follows for the month ending October 2012:

BGE: 26.4%

Delmarva: 15.4%

Pepco: 23.6%

Potomac Edison: 11.8%
