Carthage Energy, LLC has provided notice to the New York PSC that it intends to discontinue operation and retire the Carthage Energy electric generation facility unit effective April 1, 2013.
Carthage Energy, LLC is a unit of Iberdrola USA. The Carthage Energy electric generation facility is a merchant, natural gas fired combined cycle plant nominally rated at 63 MW.
The unit is notable because it was previously included in an auction bundle featuring assets owned by Rochester Gas and Electric, required to be divested as part of the acquisition by Iberdrola. The auction failed to attract qualifying offers (see earlier story)
It is expected that following the discontinuation of operations and retirement that all equipment at the facility will be removed and sold, the company said.
