TXU Energy has launched a residential product which provides customers with a credit for usage between 801 kWh and 1,200 kWh during a month, intended to make such usage free.
Specifically, under TXU Energy's FreePower 400 plan, when a customer uses more than 800 kWh, up to the next 400 kWh would be free.
Usage between 801 kWh and 1,200 kWh is free based on a credit provided by TXU equal to the TXU energy charge plus usage-based (volumetric) TDU charges. Monthly TDU delivery charges, state and local taxes, and other billed charges for remaining usage apply normally.
For example, in the CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric service area, the FreePower 400 18-month fixed rate plan has an energy charge of 12.7¢/kWh, plus TDU charges.
The customer will receive a credit of 16.1869¢/kWh on the monthly bill for usage between 801-1200 kWh (inclusive) each month that is based on the energy charge and the TDU delivery usage charges (credit amount may change to reflect changes in TDU charges).
The average all-in rate for the FreePower 400 18-month fixed plan at CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric is 13.9¢/kWh, based on 1,000 kWh usage per month. The product includes an early termination fee of $295.
For customers living in apartments, where usage is typically less, TXU offers a variant of the plan, the TXU Energy FreePower 200 plan, which provides the next 200 kWh in usage for free for usage above 500 kWh.
