eVgo, NRG Energy's electric vehicle charging service provider, confirmed to Matters that it will be offering chargers and related services to homeowners in the District of Columbia area in addition to building out a public EV charging network, which was announced last week.

eVgo confirmed that it will offer private chargers to individual homeowners and multi-family community residential customers in the D.C. area, as well as the potential for work place charging. eVgo has not determined specific private charger service offerings at this time, but expects to have several different plans to meet the varying needs of EV drivers similar to the plans available in Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, and California.

Some of eVgo's home-charging plans in Texas (notably those that allow unlimited off-peak home charging for a flat fee) require the customer to be a customer of a specific retail electric provider which is a partner of eVgo, such as Reliant, Green Mountain Energy, Direct Energy and TXU Energy.

eVgo expects to begin offering the private charger plans in D.C. in the second quarter of 2013.

As for the public charging network in D.C., eVgo anticipates the build-out taking about two years. Construction of the first station has begun at a Walgreens in the District (Van Ness neighborhood), and eVgo has sites in the pipeline that should achieve 10 stations by summer. Pricing for specific public charging service plans is not available at this time, but eVgo anticipates offering several plans similar to the plans available in Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, and California.
