Carthage Energy, LLC has provided notice to the New York PSC withdrawing its earlier intent retire the Carthage Energy electric generation facility.

Carthage Energy had previously submitted a notice to retire the plant effective April 1, 2013.

Carthage Energy, LLC is a unit of Iberdrola USA.

The Carthage Energy electric generation facility is a merchant, natural gas-fired combined cycle plant nominally rated at 63 MW.

The unit is notable because it was previously included in an auction bundle featuring assets owned by Rochester Gas and Electric, required to be divested as part of the acquisition by Iberdrola. The auction had failed to attract qualifying offers (see earlier story).

It was not immediately clear if, with the plant remaining in operation, continuing attempts to effect divestiture will be required.
